A simple question has triggered a surprising revelation in Pennsylvania. When reporters asked themselves how many law enforcement agencies were operating in the state, they thought the answer would be straightforward. It turns out that question is more complicated than it seems, Spotlight PA reports. More than 1,100 law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania were enrolled in a police misconduct database created by law in 2020, but a 2021 release from the Governor celebrating its launch referenced more than 1,300. “It turns out that [the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission] does not have a definitive total on the number of agencies in PA,” acknowledged Lt. Adam Reed, State Police communications director.
